Winemaking & An Extended Patio Season At Liberty Lake Wine Cellars!

Final Harvest Bin of the 2023 Vintage!

Yesterday was our final pick of the 2023 season! We harvested 3 tons of Merlot from Kiona Vineyards, which will round out our total tonnage for this vintage at 44 tons. This is our 8th vintage owning the winery and just like every year, nothing is normal. This year our harvest was coming in light, meaning the grape vines produced less and smaller grape clusters than in past years. Fortunately smaller grape clusters make fantastic wine. After a moment of panic, Mark started calling other vineyards and was able to find different Red Mountain sources for most of the tonnage we were missing. Thankfully we learned early on that adopting a go with the flow attitude is a must in the winemaking business.

This weekend we’ll have samples of the Merlot grapes in the tasting room. We’ll still be pressing wine in the parking lot through the end of October. If you’d like to check out winemaking in action, stop by the winery to see what’s cooking. We’re always happy to give a tour. If you can’t make it in during harvest, check out this video of our entire winemaking process, click here.

For the next few weeks, we’ll have portions of the parking lot blocked off for winemaking. But don’t worry, there is plenty of parking on the street. We do ask that you respect our neighbors at both Acrafab (to our east) and Swiss Productions (to our west) and not park at their businesses.

Low Inventory – 2019 Merlot
If you haven’t tried the 2019 Merlot recently, do it now before it’s gone! This Merlot has received many accolades including a Wine Enthusiast Editor’s Choice designation (and 91 pts) and a Double Gold Medal in the 2022 Bellingham NW Wine Competition.

Return Your Sparkling Growlers
If you have a LLWC Rose’ growler, there’s still time to return it for a free glass pour of anything in our current line up.

2023 Harvest starts with SYRAH!

September is here, which means harvest is HERE! Mark picked up 5 tons of Syrah from Ranch at the End of the Road Vineyard and Red Heaven Vineyard in Red Mountain on Friday. Syrah is typically our first varietal to harvest, and this year is no exception. Now the guessing game begins as to what will be ready next. Mark’s winemaking philosophy has always been to pick our grapes with precision for the brix (amount of sugar in the grapes) and pH (acidity). We use minimal intervention in the winemaking process, allowing the grapes to shine on their own. We’ll be posting on social media when grapes are coming, so make sure you’re following along. We process all the grapes on our crush pad in the parking lot and are always happy to chat about the winemaking process while we’re working.

For the next few months, we’ll have portions of the parking lot blocked off for winemaking. But don’t worry, there is plenty of parking along the the street. We do ask that you respect our neighbors at both Acrafab (to our east) and Swiss Productions (to our west) and not park at their businesses.
